Approaches to Conflict Resolution
Conflict resolution is the process of finding a peaceful solution to disagreements. In psychology and social work, several approaches are used to manage and resolve conflicts effectively.
1. Avoiding
In this method, the issue is ignored or postponed. It is used when the conflict is minor or emotions are too high to discuss calmly.
2. Accommodating
One party gives in to the other’s needs to maintain harmony. Useful when the issue is more important to one side.
3. Compromising
Both sides give up something to reach a mutual agreement. It is a fair and quick way to settle differences.
4. Collaborating
This is the most effective approach where both sides work together to find a win-win solution.
5. Competing
One party tries to win the conflict, often used in urgent situations where decisions must be made quickly.
Example: In a team, two members collaborate to divide tasks based on strengths to avoid future conflict.
