Wideness of Consciousness
Wideness of consciousness is a recurring theme in Sri Aurobindo’s spiritual philosophy. It refers to the expansion of individual awareness beyond ego-bound limits, enabling a deeper unity with the universe and the Divine.
In our ordinary state, consciousness is narrow and confined to personal needs and thoughts. Aurobindo teaches that through spiritual discipline—especially Integral Yoga—this consciousness can grow broader, more inclusive, and more universal. One becomes aware of subtle forces, divine truths, and inner connections with others and nature.
This widened state of consciousness helps eliminate ego, fear, and division. It fosters peace, compassion, and divine insight. It is a stepping stone toward the supramental consciousness, where truth and unity prevail.
Thus, the wideness of consciousness is not only a spiritual goal but a necessary step in human evolution, helping individuals transcend their limitations and become instruments of a higher divine purpose.
