Diathesis-Stress Model

The diathesis-stress model explains mental disorders as the result of a genetic or biological vulnerability (diathesis) combined with environmental stress. A person with a predisposition for a condition may develop it only when exposed to significant stress, making this model important in psychology and psychiatry.
