Introduction
Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) was launched in 2001 by the Government of India to provide wage employment and food security to rural poor. It aimed to create durable community assets while offering work opportunities.
Key Features
- Employment provided to rural poor during lean agricultural seasons
- Wages partly paid in food grains and partly in cash
- Focus on infrastructure like roads, water conservation, and sanitation
Target Group
Unskilled workers in rural areas, especially BPL families, Scheduled Castes (SCs), and Scheduled Tribes (STs)
Conclusion
SGRY helped in reducing rural poverty and building village infrastructure. It was later merged into other employment schemes like MGNREGA for better implementation.
