Kinship
Kinship refers to the social relationships that connect individuals through blood (biological ties) or marriage. It forms the basis of the family system in all societies and plays a key role in shaping roles, responsibilities, and social behavior. In rural and tribal communities, kinship structures are very strong and influence inheritance, marriage customs, and decision-making. Kinship includes terms like father, mother, brother, sister, uncle, etc., and often determines whom a person can or cannot marry. It also supports emotional bonding, care for elders, and community unity. Social workers must understand kinship patterns to effectively engage with traditional communities.
